Introducing Bristol Chiropractor Dr. Imanuel Morenings

From early on, I knew that I wanted to be a doctor.  My father was a chiropractor and I saw his many patients get their lives back as he cared for them and helped them on their road to health.

Dr. Imanuel Morenings, Bristol ChiropractorI was active in sports during high school and college and injured my neck and lower back on several occasions.  My father made subtle corrections through chiropractic spinal adjustments and I was amazed at how quickly I recovered.  Soon I was able to return to high levels of activity without the aid of drugs or surgery.  As I considered my options for a career, I knew that I wanted to be a doctor.  My choice was between using medication and / or surgery to treat injuries and illnesses, or to care for patients as a chiropractor by removing nerve interference so that the body could utilize its God-given ability to heal.

I chose Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, which is the oldest and largest chiropractic college in the world.  My father graduated from Palmer and I knew that it was the best choice for my education.  Although the class work was very difficult and challenging, I loved learning about the incredible structure and function of the human body.  It is fascinating how the nervous system controls each organ and tissue as it communicates with the brain to get the right response and allows the body to function with flawless organization.  As I intensely studied the effects of interference or damage to this amazing system and the dis-ease that can result, I grew to understand that from the first moments after conception through the advanced years of life, the body is capable of healing itself so that we can negotiate life with health and vitality.

I was intrigued by the prospect of helping patients resolve infirmities and regain a part of their lives that was lost or impaired without removing body parts or putting toxic or foreign substances into their bodies.

One of my favorite quotes came from Dr. Virgil Strang who said, “We are not merely human beings, we are humans being.”  We were created to live long, healthy fruitful lives, not just to exist.

My constant desire for the twenty-five years that I have been a chiropractor is to help each patient improve their quality of life so that they can live to the fullest and realize their God gifted potential.  Whether it is a newborn who is failing to thrive, a father who cannot work after an automobile accident, an athlete who struggles to stay on top of her game, or a great-grandmother who is resigned to living with pain, they all find that chiropractic care allows the body to work at its best.

I have been married to Vanessa for twenty-four years and still am enjoying the honeymoon.  She worked with me for over fifteen years before she retired two years ago.  She is now engaged in homeschooling our thirteen year-old son Isaac, who continually amazes us with his technological skills.  We love to travel as much as possible and enjoy exploring the parks, small towns, and communities throughout Southwest Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina.  We also stay actively involved in our church and community.

I have to practice what I preach when it comes to chiropractic care.  I get adjusted at least two times per month and sometimes more if my activities get too demanding.  I have learned that diet and exercise are essential to maintaining health and that adhering to a predominately vegan diet is the best choice to keep this aging body functioning at its best.  I enjoy collecting healthy recipes and share them with patients and guests at our office.

Vanessa was diagnosed with ovarian cancer about four years ago and has remained incredibly healthy despite major surgery and two rounds of chemotherapy.  Diet and exercise made a significant impact on her progress throughout this illness.  She has also been adjusted frequently and, other than the drugs that were necessary during her chemotherapies, has not needed any of the medications that are routinely given to cancer survivors.  We are most thankful that our gracious Heavenly Father has given her healing, strength, and courage sufficient to enjoy each day.

Isaac got his first spinal check up when he was less than a day old.  He was born eight weeks early and had a difficult entrance into the world.  Given the circumstances early in his life, we elected not to have him vaccinated.  He is a stranger to medications, vaccinations, and his pediatrician.  He has rarely been sick and regularly requests spinal adjustments so that he can stay at his best.

I am frequently asked by concerned parents as to whether I recommend against vaccinations.  I simply encourage them to educate themselves as to the benefits, risks, and side effects that their children might experience as a result of vaccinations.  There are ever increasing volumes of information and studies regarding the significant risks associated with vaccinations that every parent needs to consider so that they can make truly informed decisions.
